    Having graduated from the Courtauld Institute of Art in 1994, Stuart joined Daniel Katz at his first gallery in Jermyn Street. During the following 23 years he worked alongside Danny Katz handling some of the greatest European Sculpture to come to the market, enriching the collections of the most distinguished collectors and museums.
     
    In 2018, Stuart set up his own gallery in St. James's and has been proud of curating a number of exhibitions including Artists by Artists and The Alchemist's Laboratory –Giambologna's Forge in Florence. The gallery regularly participates at TEFAF Maastricht.
     
    Since 2019, Stuart has been a member on the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art. Stuart was appointed to the Board of Trustees of TEFAF in 2023 and to the Executive Board in 2025. He is Vice Chair of the Executive Committee for the Society of London Art Dealers (SLAD). He was Chair of the Courtauld Association for seven years. Stuart is a passionate supporter of the Courtauld Institute of Art.

    Hailing from Italy, Matteo completed his higher education in the UK, earning a BA from King's College London and an MA and PhD from the Courtauld Institute of Art, where he continues to lecture regularly. 

     

    He has held research appointments at leading institutions across Europe, including the University of Cambridge and the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz–Max-Planck-Institut, and has collaborated with public collections in both Britain and Italy. His articles and reviews have appeared in a range of international academic journals.

     

    Matteo combines a distinguished academic background with in-depth knowledge of the Old Masters market. Since 2016, he has contributed to research, exhibition planning and delivery, and assisted museum sales at leading London galleries. He joined Stuart Lochhead Sculpture in 2020.
